Hello, I'm Gus the newbie here and I'm happy to find this place. I'm a 50 yr old male on dialysis for 6 months now . I do (PD) and do my therapy at night. I have been asking my team of nurses how do other people cope with this, it was difficult to gage their answers because I'm sure it's not the same for everyone, so I'm glad to have a place to express how I feel and how to deal with kidney failure.
I believe that my wife, Patti, and I have been trying to learn all that we can, but it's hard to say how dialysis is just scary to us . we both need a place like this. Thank You , Gus.

Hi Gus and welcome to IHD. I'm so glad you found us. Kidney failure is scary and there is a lot to learn for both of you. I think PD at night is the best option unless you can get a transplant. You are on the right track. Just keep finding threads on this site that interest you and read, read, read.

Hi Gus. Welcome to IHD. We have a number of PD patients who are members here and have quite a bit of experience. If you haven't already done so, be sure and check out the home dialysis section. I'm sure you and your wife will find lots of useful information there. But if there are still questions you would like answered, be sure to ask. People here are more than willing to offer their experience, support and comfort whenever you need it.

Hello everyone, Thank you all for your kind replies. I would like to ask my first question, does anyone out there on PD still work a
40 hr week? I have been having problems with high blood pressure and have not been at work for 3 months now, I find it hard to think of going back to work while dealing with this disease. If you no longer work ,when you do get an SSI benefit,( and you are not age 62) . When you do get a transplant and recover are your ssi benefit's taken away? I'm thinking about retiring from my job at Vons/Safeway I've been there for 32 yr's but I'm only 50 yr's old so I want to know if I ever recover after a transplant will I have to go back to work?
I use to like my job, I've been there since I was a 17 yr old kid. I grew up there, always thinking I would always have a job while people needed food. I didn't ever want to have a position in the company that wasn't " Union" because of my diabetes and needing my health benefits
when I retire. Well, here I am ever so much needing my benefits. Sorry if it soumds like I'm a ranting old dud, but IHD!!!!!!! Gus

Gus sorry your feeling so down. But understood.
From what i understand if you get a transplant yes you will have to go back to work. I think they consider you healthy again?
Please put a search in the search box and see what you come up with. Rerun and others were talking about this just today. I just cant find the link.
Maybe go to the members section and click on reruns name. From there look at her previous posts and go from there? Sorry i am not more helpful kinda computer lame.
Or you could start a thread outside of the introduction section. It takes a little time but you will figure out the boards likely faster then i do....
