Title: my new piece of history-from the Indianapolis gun and knife show.
Post by: Adam_W on January 12, 2009, 01:42:35 PM
Every year I like to attend the Indiy 1500 Gun and Knife show in Indianapolis. (They usually have it two or three times a year, but I usually only go once). Over all it was a good experience, except for one "little" incident involving low blood sugar that made me have to leave the show in a ambulance instead of my dad's car. I enjoy collecting historic firearms and replicas, but since they are usually so expensive (even the non-firing replicas), I don't have very much yet. Yesterday at the gun show however, I did come across a good find. For just $95 I got a Russian Mosin Nagant infantry rifle dated from 1938 in very good condition, two original spike bayonets (one for the Nagant and one for the similar SKS rifle), two original Russian ammo pouches, and two original cleaning kits. I haven't gotten to fire the rifle yet, but I have stripped it down, cleaned the 70 year old grease out of everything, polished it down and re-oiled everything. I also gave the inside of the barrel an inspection, and it's in good shape despite it's age. Here are some pics. In the last pic, all of those little bits are the cleaning tools. The little rod poking out just under the barrel at the front of the rifle is the built in cleaning rod. You unscrew it, and it slides forward, out of the stock, and you can use it to clean the inside of the barrel.

No idea about guns this old, but if a part breaks from the firing arm, can it be fixed somewhat easily without using eBay compared to some of todays technology and products. Meaning you can only get parts for about 3 years after it was last made.

Nice find there Adam.
