Since I have insomnia and don't go to bed till he next day after 10 am, thought popped in my head.
If you have insomnia, what do you do to deal with it/spend time while not able to sleep?
As you can see, I'm here posting, or in the chat room ith other insomniacs. Otherwise I have the tv on and do other things on the laptop to get old files to new laptop. :waiting; :stressed;

I go fishing on my Daughters wii. Fishing master world tour is cartoonish, but it does pass the time :thumbup;
-
My luck, if I put Need For Speed Underground 1 and 2 on Vista, it will have a s%^$ fit. Probably will happen to the 6 games I do have.
-
I have to just lay there attached to my machine. Lately I have become attached to playing Tetris on my daughters DS. :shy;
My mother-in-law does the ironing! :urcrazy; :urcrazy;
-
I read or paly Oblivion on my boyfriends ps3
-
TV, Computer, if it's really bad, I go to work. I have been in the clinic in my PJ's several times. I leave at 5, when pts come in. Have to go home to get ready for work!!!! :rofl;
-
I chat with Chris! Read, play computer word games, post to IHD and eat! All while watching
various auctions on tv...they sell EVERYTHING on tv....except kidneys of course, but I will keep checking on that! :)
-
I sometimes have insomnia at the dialysis center fro 8p.m. to 4p.m. Informercials can be entertaining and late night talk show hosts can be funny. I also read a book..
-
On really good nights, I chat with Chris, RichardMel and Wenchie!! I am visiting my sister this week and it is hard to be in another's house anymore. Last night I was up throwing up at 12, back to bed, up again, back to bed; finally went downstairs and walked around and then read until 4. All that with Ambien and pain killer. I think I understand how some people overdose on sleeping pills. It would have been easy to take more just to fall asleep. Instead, I rely on cable tv and my computer. :rofl;
-
Some of my best friends are in my computer late at night!
-
I have a lot of sleepless nights and find myself spending most of the time on my computer. Pogo.com is one of my favorite sites for passing the time. I just can't stand being hooked up to my machine and not being able to sleep. It just seems to compound the problem. Insomnia sucks!
-
When I can't sleep I read books, use the computer, design my dream house (in my mind),worry, fidget with my legs. I try to be very quiet because my house lay-out makes it easy for my husband or two teens to hear and I don't want to wake them.If things get really bad I take an Ambien or pain killer.
-
So far today, well since yesterday without sleep, Laundry, clean house, be on computer. Do I know how to have fun or what? :rofl; :(
As of right now, I feel I can't rest, not tired.
-
Same here...ambien, benadryl, bed, sleep my 2 hours, walk, read, tv, pc, talk to myself, IHD, bed, sleep 1 hr, 2 if I'm lucky, forget it, get up and do another day. I'm so overtired but not sleeping.
Ann

I watch TV, spoil His Royal Highness King Leon, surf the net. Hope you can get to sleep real soon.
-
Since I'm a PD patient, once I hook up I pretty much there to stay for the night. And if I can't sleep or if I get the fidgets, I start feeling so trapped! I take Clonazepam most evenings to try to shut down my overactive mind down but some nights it's just not enough. I haven't even started to dialyze tonight because I'm just too keyed up and I know I won't be able to get to sleep. I like to read and have a small reading light that doesn't bother my husband too much but it doesn't help if the legs get too restless. Since it's going to be so darn cold tomorrow and I don't intend to be leaving the house for anything, I guess I have the option of doing manual exchanges for most of the day. I don't normally like CAPD and prefer using the cycler but I guess it won't be so much of a hassle since I won't be doing much anyway. I might even decide to take a break from the never-ending laundry and housecleaning. Does anyone else play games on Pogo?
-
Pogo is one of my favorite spots when I can't sleep. :2thumbsup;
-
I have been known to clean out the fridge when I can't sleep. Anyone need their's cleaned?
Otherwise, I read or find old movies on TV. Or grade a stack of dusty papers.
-
Grading papers at night is dangerous! The lower the scores the more depressed you get.
-
I LOVE pogo! It's got so much variety...there's always something different to play.

Here I am at 12:40pm and no sleep in sight. This is getting so aggravating. Monday night I didn't sleep one bit. My supplies were to be delivered sometime on Tuesday so when the sun started to come up, I decided I might as well get showered and dressed to wait for my delivery. I hadn't dialyzed at all that night as I didn't want to be going in and out of the bedroom disturbing my husband. My delivery was later than normal so once my husband Dan was up and about, he volunteered to wait for the delivery and check to make sure it was all as I had ordered. Although I use a cycler and it was all set up and ready to go, I ended up using it as more of CAPD exchanges that day, in that I would hook up, drain, fill and unhook again. I started getting pretty tired about mid-afternoon but decided to try and avoid any napping in the hopes that I'd get a good nights sleep on Tuesday. I guess I did because I apparently was noisy enough to chase my husband out to the couch about 6am this morning. He says I was snoring but I know for a fact I DON'T SNORE!!! It must have been Percy, the cat.
So for now I'm floating between MYSPACE, IHD and POGO (I'm a badge freak!) ... my three favorite sites to while away the time when I can't sleep. Tonight I'm going to give sleeping my best shot and try some Tylenol PM. If that doesn't work, you might find me back here sometime later on. Hopefully it'll work though. Too many sleepless nights and I have a tendency to get even crankier than normal. Just ask my hubby!
Night all and if you're ever on POGO, feel free to look me up. My name there is MiSSis54 (go figure!)

Some of us late nighters are in chat right now. Join us!

I finally had 2 hours sleep after 8 Wed morning, but now wide awake still and in chat still. Have to go out again to get things done. Sleep is an elusive act for me.
-
I've never ventured into the chat area. Can someone tell me how it's different from here?
-
I'm not even the patient and I have had trouble with insomnia since Willie had he's surgery December 16th. I'm a very light sleeper and that doesn't help any but if I get about 2 hours straight and then wake up, I'm done. My body thinks it is time to get up. I told Len that I am taking a hammer to bed with me tonight. :Kit n Stik; Myself in the head and maybe get sleep that way. :cuddle;
-

In chat you can see which other members are in the room with you. They are typing sentences in a conversation sort of mode.
-
I find that moving from one sleeping location to another helps (there are 3 places I can sleep in my house). The next best thing is turning on the tv to the light classical station. That kind of music puts me out every time. Hope that helps.

I do that too. I start out in bed but usually land on the couch with the tv on for background noise. I don't care how I sleep or where anymore :rofl;
-
Peleroja, I know you're back on hemo for the moment but aren't you considering going back to PD? Do you still have the same options of "sleeping around" then? It's when I'm hooked up to my cycler that I get the "trapped" feeling. It's not every night and some nights I'm able to sleep just fine although I might have used some assistance like Tylenol PM or Clonazepam. Sometimes like this past night, when I anticipated that I might have trouble, I switch to a modified version of PD in which I've done several exchanges during the day and then will put an overnight exchange in and unhook which gives me the freedom to roam if necessary. It's 4:15am right now and I've been up and about since 3AM so I guess I made the right choice last night!
I don't know about anyone else here but I have little control over the TV remote control or the radio in the car unless I'm driving so I'm not sure I could get away with classical music in the bedroom. Never hurts and it sounds like it might be worth a try. Thanks for the suggestion.
-
Well I did finally get a little sleep. Fell asleep while in chat with Wenchie58 and Circleinthedrain.. Unfortunately it wasn't for long and no one was in chat when I woke up. Still feel odd, but wide awake.
-
So that's where you disappeared to last night! I wondered why you got so quiet for so long.
If I can't sleep, I'll go down to the couch, which is WAYYY more comfortable than the bed, and watch tv, or play around on the computer.
-
I spend endless hours in mindless chat with the "Late Night Loonies". Well, it isn't always mindless and not everyone is loony...but we laugh til we cry and act way younger than our years. If we were still in school I'm sure "some" would get detention....not me of course, since I am an innocent bystander. <snort>
Shup Chris! :rofl;
-
I thought we were having serious indepth discussions and solving world problems! Mindless? Loony? :rofl; I think I missed a good chat last night. I actually slept :yahoo;
Wenchie, WHO is innocent?? :rofl;
-
What? You mean the Maldives, bikinis and nude beaches aren't serious topics?! :shy;
-
No comment on that one. :shy;
I got booted so many times last night, that after 7:30 am I had enough. So far so good in chat.
-
Did someone say nude beaches and the Maldives? Now that's serious! Darn, and Zach was kind enough to PM me to come to chat but I noticed it too late.
-
Zach, I thought I got your only invite to chat! :rofl; At least I am in good company with Monrein!
-
Ahh, Paris, it's the age old story...always have them thinking they're the only one who could be so special. I believe the game is played equally well by both sides of the gender divide. :rofl;
He probably plies all the girls with wine too.
-
That's why he offers the women a drink when they come into chat :rofl; :rofl; :rofl;
-
wenchie..you sound like me, the local rabblerouser (nice trouble maker) :rofl; by the way ladies...zach asked me to join him for a drink last evening...so there.
Love you guys and girls.
Ann
-
:rofl; :rofl;
-
Now we know what a two timer Zack really is :rofl;
-
No comment of the female persuasion in chat :rofl; :rofl;
You know who you are, your not hiding... :rofl; :rofl; :rofl; :rofl;
-
Hey! If I hadn't been there last night at one point, you would have been talking to yourself for a while Chris!
-
:shy;
-
Why you blushing so red Wenchie? :rofl; :rofl; :rofl; :rofl;
Anyway, I hope to find something Friday when I see doc. Paddbear said in chat that research showed that some people only need a small amount of sleep or something. Memory a little fuzzy.
I don't want to do a sleep study though, That's nerve racking having someone watch you, bed uncomfortable, can't walk the halls, no decaf cofee to make.
-
:waving;
Morning Chris... (well I am about to go to bed as it's night time here!)
You must have slept last night because you Wenchie and JP were missing in action. I missed you in Chat.
-
I don't know what Chris, JP and Circ were doing
last night, but this old gal was sleepin like a baby!
Now I am probably good for another three days
of insomnia! Grrrr.
-

No, I said people can only go so many days without sleep before it starts messing with your body and becomes fatal. Boy, your memory sure is fuzzy!
-
Wattle, I got bootted a lot that night, then cable and internet went down. What a boring night that was.
Paddbear, I refute your reality and subject you to my own....lol I thought that's what you said though, my mistake. memory still not great though.
-
Usually I multi-task. I can't sleep because I am wound up. Last night I was chatting in the chatroom, using a remote connection to catch up on some work from the office, doing laundry and watching an action movie on tv. Today I am sitting around, proud of all my overnight accomplishments! :yahoo;
-
Oooops, supposed to go to the gym, you made me tired already!
-
I did find my blood test order after you left this morning Wechie. I just didn't go get the test done.I slept for 3 hours today, but also thought today was Wednesday.
-
Wait?! What?! You mean yesterday wasn't wednesday?? Crap, that just screws up my whole week!! :o ;)
-
It's bad when you go in for test and people that know you at the hospital basically tell you "You look like s#@!! You feeling OK?"
I was feeling ok till you said that. While waiting for test I started to really feel odd. That feeling got worse and lasted 30 min and was hoping no one would send me to the ER. I made it out of there and by my next destination, that odd feeling went away.
One of the workers suggested I try masage therapy and/or yoga. Neither of those is going to happen. I am squirmish of other people touching me and not going to be only covered by a towel. Great, get tortured and freeze to death, Great Plan Einstein! Yoga, HAH, like I caan bend any part of my body into a pretzel. Supposedly there is an injection or IV drip that can be given that knocks you right outfor many hours
-
If anyone suggests massage to me I just lie down and strip, I love having massages and used to go once a month whether I needed it or not. In my next life I'm coming back as a dog and hopefully one with good owners who will willingly pet and scratch me all day long.
-
ohhhh massage............ :bow;
-
Supposedly there is an injection or IV drip that can be given that knocks you right outfor many hours
Yeah it's called anesthesia! :rofl;
-
Will see if transplant center will help with insomnia since local docs do not want to touch it besides telling me to drink Sleepy Time Tea or Tylanol PM. Rather feel uncomfortable and try a massage :stressed; than drink tea. Give me some sleepy coffee.
-
I am fairly new to dialysis.But what is it that makes it hard to get to sleep?I lay there and think about all kinds of crap (for hours).If I do fall asleep I wake up between 4:00 & 4:30.On the days off from dialysis I don't want to sleep because I want to enjoy feeling good.
-
I had insomnia on the days off dialysis, but would fall asleep after 3 am and get back up at 6 am for classes. On dialysis days, Ii just napped afterwards for a bit, cleaned house and naped again before working on homework.
With transplant, I'm going day's without sleep. It happened right after my transplant and went away on it's own, but still easily stayed up past 12 am. Now it's back for the last few weeks with just sleeping 1 to 2 hours at a time.
No idea what causes it, never searched possible causes.
-
I guess I have in to late :'( still no one in chat
-
I chat...and eat...and watch interesting tv! LOL!
-
I always end up watching the history channle. ;D Always the best in the middle of the night
-
I watch cooking shows and fantasize about cooking all the things I used to love making and eating. I also read and play mahjong on the computer. Sometimes I play scrabble against myself. Now that's exciting, let me tell you. :rofl;
-
>:( I'm not the patient in our house but this morning at 2:10 I woke up and went out on the deck in 18 degree weather and smoked a cigarette then I put a whole chicken on simmer to make chicken and dumplings. I turned on A&E and curled up in the chair with Mouse, Willie and Winnie. I am getting tired now and I probably won't sleep tonight either. Maybe I'll use kitkatz :Kit n Stik; on myself. :cuddle;
-
Looking at my labs, I noticed I have low Iron (Fe or testing). Maybe I need to reread things from the past I read, but I thought I remember seeing that low iron will make you tired. Last time I was on Iron was during dialysis.
-
low iron means your anemic, yes i would think you would be tired.
-
I have a lot of things to complain about Monday. But starting to feel they may admit me for dehydration due to frequent flyer miles to the washroom on top of the other problems I have.. Just have to make sure I get there on time.
-
Go for it. Complain all you want. I hope you stay out of Hotel Needles!
-
I think I might sleep today. Feeling worse after 9 am with nausea. Looked at what I had for fluids from yesterday and thru the night and it wasn't even 24 fluid oz, not good.Don't think it's the flu or cold, I can breathe easy and no cough or sore throat. Temp, have no idea, never did get a new thermometer. Looked at one with speech utput, but never got it. Whoops!
If I sleep, hope it's during the game and it's a sound sleep so I don't hear my dad yelling at the tv like they can hear him.
-
Waitaminute!!
Chris....are you telling me that when I yell at the drivers during a NASCAR race they
can't hear me giving them much needed instruction?
I am crushed!!!! :waiting;
-
They are turning left aren't they?
They're just lucky I'm not driving there, I'd be bumben them out of the way, like Jimmy Johnson, Jeff Gordon Waltrip, the Bushes to name a few.
-
If I sleep, hope it's during the game and it's a sound sleep so I don't hear my dad yelling at the tv like they can hear him.
:rofl; :rofl; :rofl;
Chris, just start chugging water this evening! Maybe you can stay out of the hospital that way. Or better yet, start injecting some water with your old insulin syringes! ::)
-

I have problems drinking water though due to getting sick from it years ago. Ufortunately, I gave my syringes away to my diabetes educator for people who could use them. I remember that's what we did for animals to to hydrate them.
-
Can you drink some gatorade or something then?
-
Nope, it's high in potasssium and my level is on the border of high already for last labs. I have a jug from a couple years ago when I could have it. It was easy back then to get 64 oz in, just drink two of the bottles. However, right now I am having a hard time driking anything, even coffee I love to have.
Going to go lay down now though, stomach area is bothering me.
