Post by: Chris on January 10, 2009, 01:32:52 PM
If you missed it on TV, One Touch is offering a free meter. They are offering the One Touch Ultra Mini in any color you would like from the available choices. The link is https://www.onetouchgold.com/simplestart/?utm_source=TV_DR_60_MP2U_DANNY&utm_medium=TV&utm_campaign=2008DRTV

Having had diabetes since the age of 20, the one rule I learned long ago: Never pay for a meter.

I have been able to get a free meter from most companies by simply calling and requesting one.

Mikey, for some reason Accu Chek sends me a new one every two years automatically, usually with a 50 count bottle of strips plus the 10 strips that comes in the meter box. Then if there is a diabetes expo at the hospital, I can get one from each manufacture there. I've missed going the last 2 years due to being sick though around the same time. I've noticed at the local pharmacies that you can get a freee meter if you have one of their Preferred Shopper cards. But I have pretty much all of the major manufactors already plus 2 different talking glucose meters that suppose to help low vision. Kinda a joke there since getting the blood to the strip is the hard part with low vision. The old Accu Chek comfort curve strips worked best for me when I was totally blind because it shaped around your finger.

Yes the meter will take awhile to get to your house, like anything else that takes forever to get to you. However it's free so can't complain unless you need one right there and then.

Cool beans-takes the same strip as the one that talks to my pump...thanks Chris!

Although, I do believe it is all a scam-the meters.  They want you to have theirs because they make their money on the strips.  Same reason printers are so cheap.

I have 3 of those things. I got one from my doctor's office, one from my pharmacist and one from the free offer. I keep one upstairs, one downstairs and one in my purse. I don't think anyone has to worry about missing out on the deal. It's been running for almost a year. They are very bare bones basic though. I had their UltraSmart until it died. That was a great machine! Huge screen, backlight, you can enter insulin taken, food eaten, exercise done, lab values, doctor's appointment results. And it graphs different things. I got hat one free too.

Never got the One Touch UltraSmart. Wanted it Yes, pay about $100, noooo. I have an old Accu Chek that does most of that when I had my insulin pump.

Anyone remember the meter that was the size of a pen? I miss having that one.

Yeah, I had the pen. I found it to be horribly inaccurate though, so I stopped using it. A year or so ago, I found one at CVS that was a test strip bottle with a meter in the cap. It was cool too, but I kept getting error messages every time I tried to use it, so it got returned.

Yes it was inaccurate, but it was cool to have when I was at school. They still sell it overseas though. I just like the size of it, but can't read the results these days on it. It was cool to have as a kid, just wished I didn't chuck it.

Seems CVS, Walgreens, and Walley Mart sell the same thing., I just find it easier to carry all the supplies in one bag like the regular meter has. And again it has small font display.

I have the orignal meter of that one when it was called the Dex. Way before Accu Chek came out with something. At one time the company was offering a free meter, but you had to supply them with the serial number of your old Bayer device. I was to lazy to go to the basement to get the Dex out to get a meter. Hopefully the test strips in the Mini Ultra do not expire soon (Thanks Accu Chek).

I was surprised today, I got my free meter today. That only took 2 weeks.
