Does anyone else have issues with fibrin? I had to go to the hospital today to have the nurse suck out 2 huge strings of the stuff so that I could drain/fill/dwell.
Just wondering.
(I use the Baxer Home Choice cycler for CCPD)
Thanks,
Mike

My first drain in PD training, I had fibrin. My nurse used Heparin in my solution bags and didn't see anymore until 8-9 months later. It was only a few not enough to interrup my drain. I've been trained to administer Heparin myself in my solutions and only had to do it twice since I started back in Oct. 2007.

I have been on PD for 3 months now, and have not seen any fibrin. My Nurse did train me how to apply heparin to my PD solution if I should ever need to...but have not had to do it yet.

I had fibrin several times while on manual, and had to go to the nurse and get a few bags laced with heparin. After going on the cycler, no more fibrin.

My clinic is in Hamilton Ontario and here we put 2 ccs of heparin in the heater bag each night to prevent problems. It's a lot better than screwing up a catheter.
