Not a good way to end the year. My friend Brad who I knew for about 12 years out in Sacramento when I lived there, passed away today. Since he was 19 he has had a pretty tough life. Brad was accidentally shot in the back during a hunting outing and was crippled from it from the chest down. For the time I knew him, that never slowed him down. He was fiercely independent and could load his chair in the back of his truck and do what he liked. With being a paraplegic came a lot of medical problems that he had to deal with. He always took it in stride and was notorious for driving the nurses crazy. He developed bladder cancer recently, and it wasted no time in taking him out (he was 47). I did get a chance to talk to him on the phone when I was allowed by the ICU nurses and was also updated on his condition regularly by his sister Mary Jo whom was my girlfriend for about 9 years.
I hate the fact that I can not get to his funeral. Kidney disease does not allow you to just get up and go and I will feel bad about that for awhile. I pray that he is in a better place now, and walking on his own. I will miss Brad, he was one of a kind...Mark

:grouphug; just to let you know I'm thinking of you. Please don't feel bad that you can't go to the funeral, Brad knew how kidney disease restricts things and he would understand. It is better to care for people when they are here - and you did that. :cuddle;

Sometimes our shoulders aren't quite big enough to handle things like this, but for all you to offer up part of yours for support makes it easier. Thank you for your thoughts and kind words...Boxman

So sorry to hear of the loss of your friend. You were there for him through thick and thin and I am sure that is something he appreciated most. Try not to feel bad about not being able to attend the funeral. As one of the other members noted, it is much more important to care for those you love when they are still here. It sounds like you did just that and enjoyed the many years of friendship that you shared.
I pray that the good Lord with replace the hurt in your heart with all of the fond memories you two shared. He truly is in a better place now.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers. I hope death doesn't happen in threes because my Uncle Ralph passed away last nite. He was married to my Mother's sister. Our families are very close. Total of 17 kids between our families. He was a very stand up Uncle. He will be missed...Boxman
(Give my Mother a hug, Uncle Ralph, then find someone to play cribbage with you but, go easy on them)
