Title: Rant!
Post by: karen547 on December 18, 2008, 06:11:25 AM
Okay well my dialysis unit had to close down for a day because of equipment issues so they moved patients to different unit for a day. Well all I can say is wtf! This unit seemed nice enough and the televisions were nice enough. Well I got settled, hooked up and thought it was gonna be an okay time. Well a little bit into the treatment this nurse begins yapping on her cell phone to I'm assuming her boyfriend because I hear her say ''I want to talk about us''. and a minute later '' So are you saying it's over''?  Now call me crazy but I think that not only is it inappropriate for her to take a personal non emergency phone call WHILE she's working, but to have a conversation like that in public is almost funny! I had to stifle a few giggles... Oh and then she goes and eats her damn pizza and says to a tech or whatever, ''keep a listen out, there's nobody over here!'' Great so while shes stuffing her face with pizza and talking to her boyfriend someone could need help but oh that's right nobody is there to see!

Sorry I just had to share my experience!

Karen,

Sorry you had to put up with this.  Sometimes the
lack of common sense in the medical field is amazing -
and aggravating, to say the least!

That's the type of behavior that warrants a talk with the director of nursing or someone else in charge.  Outrageous!

Every time I hear stories like this I thank goodness for my clinic.  Never in my nearly five years has anyone been jabbering on their phone or eating on the floor.  That's HIGHLY unprofessional and grounds for a suspension.

You're crashing and having major cramps and she's having her own personal party.  I believe patient safety would be compromised if behavior like this were to continue.

Both issues are innapproriate, my employess are not allowed to have personal phone calls unless they are on break, and off hte floor.  The eating on the floor is a violation of state health depatrment, (at least in Texas) and BOTH should be reported.

Wow....all that you described is the norm at my dialysis unit. One tech was wearing a blue tooth headset and for a second I thought she was talking to me.
I will say they don't eat out in the actual unit.

I've had both extremes!  One clinic allowed NO cell phones because the machines might malfunction (which was a bunch of crap) and the next clinic had techs talking on the cell phones while attending to me.  There is common courtesy when using cell phones.  They should be allowed because we are on the machine for hours on end and why not get caught up with relatives.  They feel that they are helping in some way by helping me pass the time.  YET, the employees should not talk on them while attending to patients.
