Title: Flu season
Post by: Sluff on December 17, 2008, 06:24:58 AM
I'm not one to entertain the thought of getting sick from colds and flu's but I just got over the flu recently. Sometimes I think we can bring these things on ourselves by negative thinking but I can assure you the flu was unexpected, I didn't even know it was going around. Anyway the purpose of this thread is to warn the rest of the IHD family that the one I had was ferocious and really knocked me for a loop. I am a pretty strong person and though I have a lot of health concerns none of them being real bad,  beware especially those with new transplants.  Please be prepared and take good care of yourselves because it is a bad one.

I'm in bed right now with a horrible cold, my first in two years.  I had my flu shot but I hate colds as well and my throat is very sore right now.  Poor you Sluff, glad you've recovered.

Glad you got rid of it Sluff.

Get well Monrein..

I am amazed at the medical advances modern science has brought us, yet we cant beat the common cold?  But we do have flu shots??
Can it all be a scam so the big pharma companies can keep selling us products that may or may not actualy help rid us of the cold but only rid us of some side effects?
Seems a cold with no medicine will run its course as fast as a cold when you do use medicines.
Sorry just a thought or rant.

The Influenza Science sub-topic is very informative.
The site has gotten accolades for reliable information.

Luckily, Ray hasn't caught anything...yet.   I got knocked down
the week of Thanksgiving.  And I swear I still have
residual affects. Corricidrin for High Blood Pressure
really helped me out.  Plus I got to read one of
Oprah's books club selections:  The Story of David Sawtelle.
I highly recommend this book.

Plus washing your hands and spraying the common areas you touch
in your home with Lysol spray.

Thanks and by the way I did have a flu shot, so maybe it would of been worse if I didn't, I don't know.

I've received the flu shot for the last 4 years.  I got the flu around Thanksgiving, and it was a bugger to heal.  I don't think they got the right antibodies in the shot this year - everyone at work was sick, whether or not they got the shot.  It's been bad!!!

glad to hear you're better sluff. we all need to be careful, it isn't just the flu that can send you for a loop. i was sick last  on the 8th and 9th then seemed to do better. at least i thought i was. saturday afternoon i started getting dizzy, if i had to describe it i would have said i was drunk, at least 3 margarita's worth without any of the fun. hospital decided whatever virus i had at the beginning of the week had settled in my ears. a whole bunch of tests later and valium 3 times a day (can you say happy) they let me come home monday after dialysis. ya just never know, so everyone take care.

Sorry to hear you had the flu Sluff, but happy to hear you are on the mend.  Hope you're staying cozy Monrein and getting lots of rest.

According to Google's flu tracker it hasn't even gotten bad yet in terms of the number of flu cases around the country.

I am around kids everyday. I wash desks regularly especially if someone is snorting and coughing.  I also have hand sanitizer for everyone to use especially me and my aide.  I sneezed the other day and scared my entire class.

:rofl; :rofl;

they gave us both pneumonia and flu shots.  however, i now have a cold.  it isn't too bad most of the time, but when i cough, it is embarrassing!  sounds like what we call a 'graveyard cough'!

Hope you feel better Sluff and Monrein.  The only year I ever had a flu shot what the only year I ever had the flu.  It was the worst flu and I was in hospital for a week.  That was when I was 28 and I haven't had a flu shot since - nearly 20 years.  Get the odd cold - usually at the end of winter but never had anything as that bad since.  Even pneumonia didn't compare.  Refuse to ever have a flu shot again!
