Okay so my boyfriend Todd has invited me to spend Christmas Eve with him and his family. I am just wondering if it is customary to bring anything ?? I mean is it expected? Appropriate? Do I just get a nice Christmas card or something else??? I'm excited but am a bit nervous as well
-
Yes, it is customary and respectful to bring something. If they are wine drinkers, you could bring them a nice bottle of wine and perhaps a nice box of chocolates that his Mom might really like. You could also make a dessert which is much more personal. You could also bring a nice flower arrangement or a nice pointsettia.
Good luck and have fun!

That's so great Karen. I'm sure nothing is expected but I would take a small present for his mother, maybe a Christmas plant (poinsettia or even a nice Christmas cactus) or some chocolate or nice hand lotion. Ask Todd what she likes. Nothing extravagant, just thoughtful. You could also bake some cookies or make some homemade cranberry sauce (so easy), something that would be for everyone.
Don't be nervous, try to relax, have fun and get to know his parents and family. I'm excited for you. :cuddle;

Well Sky said exactly the same thing i was gonna say.
Anytime you are invited to someones home for a party of sorts it is nice to bring a gift of somekind.

Just this past weekend I met the parents of my daughter's boyfriend. The kid's made
marinated steaks and a ceasar salad; absolutely wonderful. The occasion was to celebrate
his mom's birthday and mine, which are just a few days apart. Plus, just to meet.
I brought a bag of grinded coffee beans from
Starbucks. It was good to sit and chat and relax.
They are probably just a little nervous too.
Your sweetness is going to shine through!

A nice, scented candle always makes a nice generic gift. A plate of home-made cookies is always a winner too!

I was taught it was good manners to bring something for the hostess and since it is Christmas Eve it would be appropriate to bring a gift. Everyone gave you great ideas. Don't spend much. They will be impressed that you were so thoughtful! Hope you have a great time and tell us all about it :2thumbsup;

Have fun. Everyone has given nice suggestions.
-
Have a great time, I'm sure whatever you bring will be fine.

I am sitting right next to a little blooming Christmas Cactus that a friend brought over last year around this time. It's a whole year later and I am still thinking how nice it was of them to think of me. It's the thought that counts. I hope you have fun!
-
Sounds exciting.
Definitely bring something. Make sure it's something that is sort of "neutral" so you wont need to worry about whether it is her taste. I love to bring seasonal plants from my local favorite plant store or grocer. Have a great time and don't be nervous.
-
Yep....I also would be taking something. Only has to be small and some of the suggestions here are really suitable. I hope you have a terrific time. xx

I'm thinking of bringing a candle, I asked Todd what scent she likes and he guessed something floral. I'm going to Hallmark today and I also am picking up a gift card for Todd since his bday is sunday!
-
Perfect! Hallmark will have a nice selection for you. Have fun!

Candles are a great idea, totally forgot about them. Hallmark sells Yankee Candles, which are AWESOME!
A few years ago my best friend and I dragged our poor husbands to the Yankee Candle Factory in the Western part of Massachusetts (we live in the Northeast sector of Mass). It was WONDERFUL there. Rob won't go back with me, but I really want to. I LOVE candles!
Oops, sorry for going off topic!

I bought her a nice Cucumber smelling Burning Wick Candle. The ones that sound like a fire. I also bought her a nice Thank You card. Now the only thing is what do you buy a man? His parents are divorced and we have to visit his dad on Xmas day! This is gonna be like that new movie 4 Christmases lol

Get him a bottle of Jack Daniels.
I'll drink to that!

How about some kind of candy for the Dad?

I'm Southern, you ALWAYS take something to someones house. My Mom (RIP) also told us "Never give an EMPTY picture frame." There is an idea for the boyfreind, a nice frame, with a picture of you in in it. Have FUN :beer1;

We are actually going out shopping tomorrow hopefully so I am gonna pick him up something then.

You could be cute and innocently mix the gifts up. Then tell them ooopsy.
