GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  My dad had his second treatment today,,,he is not even tired from it from his treatments either.. And he even ATE,,,,pretzels had a taste and he had beef sirloin tips with rice not a real lot BUTTTTTTTTTTTTTT ENOUGH THAT HE ATE more then he has....

We have a question his arm wasnt swollen from the 1st treatment but now it is red and swollen the nurse said as long as his hand doesnt hurt it is fine they will just keep an eye on it...the did not attract fluid,,just cleaned blood 2 1/2 hours....Is that normal?

So great to hear this. It  sounds like they did a PUF treatment which just cleans the blood. I am going to assume that his dry weight was right where it should be with no excess fluid retention thus the blood cleaning only...Boxman

I think PUF is different.  Pure Ultra Filtration is where all they take off is fluid but no cleaning of toxins or electrolytes.  I think I'm correct in this but I could easily be wrong.  LOL.

Brandy, since he is brand new to Hemo, they are just going to have to guess for a "dry weight".  It will be a process of several treatments to slowly arrive at a weight.  Usually, unless someone is visibly overloaded and in distress, they don't try to take off much weight at first.  They need to watch him to see how he reacts to the treatment.  Remember, he is having toxins and electrolytes removed, that his body has gotten used to.  Give him a few treatments, you'll be surpirised.  GREAT NEWS :bandance;
