:flower; Hi my name is Judy but everyone calls me tesse, I am kind of new to dialysis, it has been only 1 1/2 since told that I would be hooked to a machine to clean my blood and that I would be feeling 100% better.... yea right....
I don't have the usuall problems that come with end stage renal failure, as a matter of fact, the only thing wrong with me is that the kidneys stopped working...
I live in southern Calif. in the OC area, my husband has been great with helping me deal with being on dialysis, which he will tell you I hate with a huge passion. If I can find a reason not to go, I will not go..... depends on really how I am feeling, that morning of treatment....
I would love to hear from others, maybe you can help me adjust... which I am having a hard time with...
sorry this is sooo short I just don't know what to say, other than I hate dialysis

How old are you? Do you plan to get a transplant? If so,one of the things they look at while considering if you'll be a good candidate is your dialysis attendance, if you dont go to all your treatments they will look at it like you dont follow rules and may not allow you to be listed. Ive been on dialysis for 10 years now, i dont feel like i need to go for evey treatment because i feel fine, I go because i have to and because i know whether if I can tell the difference or not, I am a little better off if i go to each session Im spposed to

:welcomesign; Tesse. glad you found us and I hope we can help you with the adjustment. It takes time to adjust to the whole thing but generally speaking we do best if we follow the schedule and the diet, as awful as both are. I went on D at 26, did 5 years, had a transplant for just over 23 years and now am back on D, until I can (hopefully) get another.
I hope you'll post often with questions, experiences to share, concerns or even a good joke.

Hi Tesse
I have been on dialysis since aug 08. At 1st I was dead against it but agreed with drs to try it for 6 months. As of this date I am not to pleased with it but things have improved somewhat.. I finally got tyhen to cut the flow and finished this morning w/o feeling faint or having BP drop.
I have already talked about stopping same and family still agrees its my decision I still feel I am a drag on the family but my Dear Wife says no way. My 3 offspring also are pitching in to take up the slack but personally I am not 100% satisfied. On Thanksgiving I turned 85 and ralize I have lived the best years of my life
My best to you and yuours

:waving; Tesse, I am a caregiver to my mom who is 76 and predialysis. She is having trouble just accepting that dialysis will happen at some point. It is a life-altering condition that affects you and all around you. IHD makes that a bit easier. Talking helps, a lot. take care

Welcome to our community, Tesse! I am really glad that you found us! I know the difference that this site made to the way I looked at my dialysis. I was extremely scared at first, but the guys that I met talked me through it and then things went so much better. You will find that this site is not only a great source of information, but above that, a real place for support, and even fun. Here you can rant, rave, rage or vent to your heart's content, knowing that there are people who understand EXACTLY what you are going through. This IHD family is with you for the long haul. :grouphug; So keep reading and keep posting. Let us know how you are doing. Looking forward to hearing from you.

:welcomesign;
Hi Judy I am the wife and care giver to John. He has been ill now for 2 years with renal failure, not yet on dialysis but knows he will have to go on it one day and is not looking forward to it. But he knows at the end of the day it will make him feel better and I will make sure he goes and be there for him. He is 73 and I have found this site to be a great comfort for me (he will not use it) but sometimes he does ask me to ask a question about different things he has gone through, the people on this site are now just great friends to me and will be there for you to. Just ask and rant whenever you feel like it. Yvonne the wife.
