Title: "Twilight" - Any fans?
Post by: cherpep on November 24, 2008, 12:06:19 PM
Went to the movies this weekend to see the movie "Twilight".  Has anyone else heard of this?  Has anyone else read the books?  My 12-year old daughter was a huge fan of the books, so I picked it up and was immediately hooked.  It's a 4-book series by Stephenie Meyer, telling the story of a teenage girl who goes to live with her dad near Seattle, Washington.  It's actually a love story with a couple of vampires thrown in.

My daughter has already seen the movie 3 times, and it only came out last Friday.  She is hooked.  I enjoyed the movie, thought they did a great job translating the book to a movie.  Even though it is pretty much a chick-flick, there are some action scenes and the mysterious vampires to intrigue the guys too.  Actually, my husband also went with us and enjoyed it more than he thought he would.  He said it was so good, he never even wanted to snooze - that's high praise indeed!

We had our own Bellabration night (the heroine's name is Bella).  We had bloody-good strawberry shakes and challenged each other with some 'Twilight' trivia off the internet.  We had a great time.  I finished off the evening with a dialysis treatment - who knew we could come up with a theme for the evening where blood-sucking dialysis fits right in?!

Sounds like a great family night  :clap;

I will see it when it comes out on DVD.

Is it better then  Lost Boys?
If you havnt seen that your daughter may like it as well.

I remember Lost Boys.  I should pull that out, I know she would like it.

If you haven't heard of 'Twilight' - you will.  It's mighty popular with the pre-teens and teens.   Move over Harry Potter.

AlohaBeth, her sister Melissa, and childhood friend, Christina all went at midnight for the very first showing.  Crazy girls!  It is a good series of books, written my a Morman mother after having a dream.  It is about a 100+ year old vampire who is now a teenage boy --- and the heartthrob of all young girls now!   They said the theater was packed with teens even though it was a school night.

I've read all the books and liked them.  I'm never much for movies from books - they don't tend to live up to my over-active imagination!

Meyer's latest book - "The Host" is very good as well.

I've read the series - they're a good read. They have quite a cult following with girls ages 15 - 25. Kind of like a "Harry Potter" for older girls! It has all the elements - forbidden love of a teenage girl and a vampire, not too racey, a romance. I haven't seen the movie yet - maybe after all the hype has died down!

Does anybody remember the soap "Dark Shadows"??  It was on in the late 60's.  It would scare me to death and I'd sleep with the blanket over my neck even in the summer.

I remember "Dark Shadows" We used to run home from junior high school to see it at 4 in the afternoon... and then my little brother (not Rolando) started having nightmares and we were no longer allowed to watch it  :(
Rolando, two of his daughters and I saw it (our idea, not the girls') at midnight surrounded by screaming girls. It was definitely a teen chick flick, but still a nice little love story.  :guitar:

Move over Harry Potter? I don't think so! Harry Potter appeals to a much wider audience (imho)  :cheer:

I remember Dark Shadows.  I was pretty young - but wasn't there a character named Barnabus Collins?  I think Kate Jackson was on the show too.  My mom used to watch it, I remember it scared the living daylights out of me.

I picked the first book of the series up the other day and devoured it in 1 day.  It was an awesome read!  I now have 2 of the other books and on the hunt for the last one.  I also want to pick up her latest, "The Host".  I really want to see this movie now, but I also don't want to be disappointed if it's totally different than the book (which most movies are).

It's very similar to the book.  Worth the trip to the movie.
