Chris was admitted to the hospital last night. He's been feeling bad since Friday. It appears to be a kidney infection. He is undergoing more tests today.
If you want to drop him a note his hospital has a patient email system. Go to www.provena.org/stjoes/patientemail then enter Chris Smith in room 802 - they will print out a message and deliver it to him.
Hang in there Chris! :cuddle;
Note: Changed room number - Tues. 8:30 pm PST
-
Thanks Rerun - I fixed the link :waving;
-
I think all I have done today is cry. :cuddle; I'll email Chris. I pray it isn't anything serious. :bow;
-
Chris, hope you get better soon, I am thinking good thoughts for you...Boxman

Get well, Chris!

-
Sweet Chris, I don't want you to be feeling bad and especially don't want you in the hospital. I'll keep praying for you to feel better and come home quickly. We are all here praying and thinking good thoughts for you. :grouphug; Love you!! :flower; :flower; :cuddle;

Wow! What a great way to modivate and show someone you care about that you're thinking of them while they're in the hospital! I sent an email to Chris as well!
Thanks for the link!
-
Chris has a fever and they've got him in isolation. You can imagine how pleased he was to get messages from our members. He was finally able to sleep a little today. Hopefully he'll know more tonight.
-
I sent him a note too.
GET BETTER SOON CHRIS!
:cuddle;
-
Email sent. I hope he gets better soon.
-
Keeping you in my thoughts, Chris! Get better soon! :flower; :flower;
-
thanks okarol
I emailed him several times because I did not think it worked :stressed;
-
I wish all hospitals did this. When a friend had twins 3 months early, we were able to send email cards through the hospital. I sent them for months and when the babies came home, I sent one last one to the nurses thanking them for helping the babies live.
Now we will flood Chris with our ecards! And get him well and home again. We love you, Chris :grouphug;
-
Awesome idea!!! I am going to send him one now, why isn't this in every hospital?
-
The staff there will think he's part of a cult or something... but a very loving and caring one. I'm sending a message too - what a great idea!!
best wishes for Chris!
-
Now Chris says they want to do a CT scan and start 24 hour urine test. He is wondering what is going on and feels doc isn't telling him anything.
-
email sent
:grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug;
-
Sending good vibes and positive thoughts your way, Chris. :cuddle; :grouphug;
-
Look you! You are supposed to be well quickly!
-
FYI To email Chris at the hospital please note his room number has changed to 802 - www.provena.org/stjoes/patientemail
-
I sent him an e-mail, too. Sure hope it is nothing serious. This is a bad day. First we find out
that Flip has died and now Chris is in the hospital, too. I am praying for a better day tomorrow.
Love, Mimi
-
Sooooo easy! I just sent an e-mail to Chris!!!! What a fantastic service!!!!
-
Thanks Karol for the information, I too sent a message along.
-
Their printer will run out of paper and they'll wonder who the celebrity is in room 802!!! :D
-
I sent Chris an E-Mail too! I wonder if all hospitals have that???
-
Today is his birthday - what a tough way to spend the day.
:bestwishes;
I am emailing him again.
He left a message that he's getting IV antibiotics but it's making him nauseous. He also feels disoriented. They've scheduled a CT scan and colonoscopy. Poor guy sounds miserable.
-
I sent another email wishing him a Happy Birthday and please get well soon. :grouphug;
-
:birthday; Chris! Wish you weren't spending it in the hospital though. :flower;
-
:birthday;
-
Chris says it's tender where his transplanted kidney is. He said maybe CMV - man that would be a real bummer.
-
He needs more beer! Wish you weren't feeling so poorly.
-
I'm praying for Chris and the kidney! I hope they both come out of this quickly!
-
Just sent him an e-mail how slick is that

here's a recent discussion on ihd:
http://ihatedialysis.com/forum/index.php?topic=8934.0
I had not realized from what I read before that CMV could affect the kidney itself. Most folks seem to end up with flu-like symptoms, although others here at IHD have reported very serious complications. Chris mentions having had CMV before, so I am hoping that his previous experience helped him put his medical team on track to treat this very quickly.
GET BETTER SOON CHRIS! :cuddle;
-
Emailing poor Chris right now... hope he feels better realllly quickly!
-
Chris,
Praying for you. Hang in there and hopefully things will get better for you soon.
-
Happy Birthday Chris. I know it doesn't feel very happy in the hospital. I hope you will soon be feeling better and back to your old self. My thoughts are with you.
Love, Mimi
-
Any new news on Chris?
-
He's still hospitalized - looks like the main problem is the CMV Colitis (large intestines) (symptoms include diarrhea, cramps, rectal spasms, weight loss.)
Docs are concerned about the weight loss. Chris hopes he can go home Sunday.
He has received the emails and is most grateful for the good wishes.
-
:bestwishes; Hey Chris
Wishing you a belated Happy Birthday. I hope you are feeling better soon. Kick that CMV in the Butt :Kit n Stik;
-
CMV --> :Kit n Stik;
-
Just what Chris needed...weight loss >:D
-
Any more news on Chris? :waving;
-
I'm wondering if the CMV had something to do with Chris often not feeling very hungry.
-
I was talking with him today and he is worried because he is spilling protein. He will be under going some more tests so he is not going home yet. Lets say some extra prayers for him. :grouphug;
-
:grouphug;
-
Chris, you're in my circle of prayer :grouphug;
Hang in there, "this too shall pass..." It's just not always easy waiting it out.
-
:grouphug; Hang in there, Chris! You'll be up and at'em soon enough! Know that we miss you!!!!!
-
TO send Chris a new e-mail... is it the same room?
-

Still thinking about you Chris and hoping everything turns out okay!

Rose, I think he would appreciate emails. I have been texting back and forth on my phone. He says he might get out Sunday. I think he's waiting to get an endoscopy.
-
Thanks Karol. Have just sent another - hope he's home soon.
-
That's great. Thanks Rose.
FYI To email Chris at the hospital please note his room number has changed to 802 - www.provena.org/stjoes/patientemail
Chrs is still in room 802. He just let me know he will be there until Tuesday. Keep those emails coming!
-
thanks for the update. I just sent another note.
-
:birthday; Chris git well soon :grouphug; Carol
-
Chris has been receiving the emails from our members - and happy to get them!
He has to get "scoped" tomorrow so is on liquid diet only - which is not much different from what he's been eating due to to difficulty digestion problems anyway.
-
I just emailed Chris again, I am SURE he is getting bored stiff... I hate hospitals :banghead;
-
They did an endoscopy - I think - took tissue samples. He's still not feeling great so he will be in at least until tomorrow.
I sent another email - the hospital staff probably thinks I have nothing else to do! :rofl;
-
I confess I only sent one email but I have been texting daily. ( is texting a word?)
-
I confess I only sent one email but I have been texting daily. ( is texting a word?)
yes it is, according to dictionary.reference.com!
tr.v. text·ed, text·ing, texts
1. To send a text message to: She texted me when she arrived.
2. To communicate by text message: He texted that he would be late.
-
And an update:
I text (or texted according to the Sluff vocabulary) Chris, and he said he's being set free today, but still waiting on tissue test results.
-
:thx; for the update Jess21. I hope Chris is doing better. We have been dealing with stomach issues since transplant last Sept. Hope they figure out whats going on. :grouphug; to you Chris. :cuddle;
-
I confess I only sent one email but I have been texting daily. ( is texting a word?)
sluff text is a four letter word
holy crap---- Sluff, reading your post made me remember the cat/dog food post for free kibbles for pounds
I have not done that in months
:'(
-
Thank You all for the emails.
It was great getting them. I had a endoscope and colonoscopy done Tuesday and they found something of interest in the large intestine and took samples. I just have to make an appointment with the doc to find out what those results will be. First in the ER they told me I just had a UTI, but when they did further testing on the floor they found I had a kidney infection. Which to me is pretty much a UTI since it is part of the Urinary tract system, but I could be wrong, I don't have a fancy piece of paper :rofl; First thing I will do when I get up is finally shave! No way will I use a hospital shaver, I might be in here longer! ;D
It was sad and a shock to hear from Okarol that Flip passed away, I will miss his humor, post, and food input. I am glad I got to meet him in Chicago.
Also so nice to only see one topic reply regarding politics and more of what the group is about.
Again, hank You for all the emails.
-
Chris,
I hope that it wasn't the Dialyzor Porn that caused some sort of attack..
Get well soon!
That email made me laugh because I wish I saw the face of the person reading and printing this email wondering what the heck is Dialyzor Porn is or what type of weird sick person I am :rofl;
-
:waving; Are you home Chris? Are you able to eat? Have you gotten any rest or did these run so many test that your exhausted? So happy to hear from you. Keep us posted on what you find out. We have missed you. :cuddle;
-
Great to hear from ya!
:waving; :cuddle;
-
Ahhh home sweet home - pets, coffee, bed, I bet it feels good. Keep resting - don't do too much! :cuddle;
-
Glad you're back and feeling better, Chris. At least I hope you're feeling better. :waving;

Yes, home now.
Haven't eaten yet, bought coffee on way home and haven't finished it yet. Jut feel weak and cold is all. Cold though seems to be the norm and most CNA's knew me from many years ago before my transplant.
Ahhh home sweet home - pets, coffee, bed, I bet it feels good. Keep resting - don't do too much! :cuddle;
Kinda liked the so called quiet of the hospital than being home, but hospital had no internet or very good TV.
I plan on going back to class tomorrow and hopefully send out my secret santa as soon as I wrap it tonight, print labels, scan the Christmas Card to post here, yada, yada, yada
-
Glad you are home buddy. :beer1;
-
Hope you have a nice warm blanket that you can get under. We have really missed you. :cuddle;
-
I'm glad you're out of the hospital and feeling better! :flower;
-
I didn't go to class today, but talked to my two instructors instead. To get caught up in one class, I have to be at school at 7 am on Monday and Wednesdays and stay late. For my other class, my instructor say's I am not behind, but I say B.S. when I watched what others where doing in class while talking to him today. He will help me get caught up though during class and after class.
Gonna be ruff in the coming weeks, then finals.
However, I did get Secret Santa gift box out, but forgot to include a letter I wanted to add.
-
I am starting to send out personal thank you letters to all the people who sent me an email while I was in the hospital. Not going to mass produce a signle email that has less individualistic flavor and meaning. I hope to have it done by Christmas at the rate I was going tonight, well 2 am equals morning doesn't it?
-
Oh Chris that is so sweet of you, but don't worry about us, you get your class work caught up first. Knowing you are back home is all we need :grouphug;
-
Chris, I was touched when I received your message, but you really didn't need to do that. We are family here and we were all concerned about you and were helpless to do anything more then send an email or text you as some lucky members did. Remember, we are all here for each other because that is what family does. :grouphug; Now, get busy on that school work. :cuddle;
-
They are right Chris! Hit the books!
I appreciate your thanks, but it made me feel better too, keeping in touch with text and email when you were in the hospital.
-
:cuddle;
-
I am glad you sent me a special email just to me
I felt important
you are a nice person
-
Hit those books!
-
19 more to go, but will keep me busy at 2 am.
Books? What books? That's something we need, but most of this is hands on.
-
Chris, you can hit my books for me! :clap;
which one? radiology? exotics and small animals?
-

I have all three of those books. Boy that was expensive to get.
Started feeling worse at 3:30 am till 12 pm and again at 6 pm tilll 11pm. If this continues, I maybe back in the hospital, but may go to my transplant hospital.
-
I hope you feel better Chris.

So sorry to hear this Chris. :cuddle;
-
:grouphug; Oh Chris, that sucks. I'll keep saying prayers for you. :cuddle;
-
hope you start feeling A-okay really soon. :cuddle;
-
Chris how are you today? I hope you start to feel better really soon. And thanks for sending those personal emails, that was very thoughtful of you.
-
Chris - please.. no need to send us messages of thanks... we apprieciate that but we want you to look after yourself not worry about us :)
-
Chris at this pace you will end up back in the hospital... take it easy. You have a big heart Chris, many members here have big hearts and that is what makes IHD so special.
