I observed two minutes of silence this morning and have been wearing my poppy for two weeks. Miracle of miracles I still have the first one I bought this year. I usually go through several as they fall off my lapel.
My Dad was a flight engineer with the US Air Force in WWII. He was shot down over the English Channel on his second flight out and they limped back to land, barely making it. Two men on their plane were killed, one was sucked out the blown off back of the aircraft. My Dad's older brother was also shot down and rescued after some long hours in a life raft at sea.

I'm on my way out the door to get a bunch of poppies to celebrate my dad, brother, uncles, grandfathers, husbands, and last but not least son's and grandchildren who without all the people willing to fight for freedom I would not have had the chance to enjoy.

There are not many WWII Vets alive anymore. Give him a hug from 1 vet to another.
Respect to all who served and to those who paid the ultimate price so that I can be free.
