Hello. First, I might be over-lucky, or haven't done enough research, but dialysis has been ok for me so far (about 5 weeks). The worst thing is the liquid limitation - the main reason I joined is to find hints about how to deal with this, and also to read stuff from other kidney patients. I live in England, so the cost thing hasn't been a problem - I don't know how it works in the US, but from what I've read on here the cost of treatment sounds like a big problem.
Just reading a few people's experiences of dialysis on here, I think I have been very lucky, so far.
(PS Aubrey isn't my name. It is the name of one of our cats. I may put his picture as an avatar, if I can work out how to do it. Yay! Done it!)

Aubrey! Welcome to IHD. Yes, I'd say you have been lucky that nothing has happened in the WHOLE 5 weeks you have been on dialysis. I hope it continues. Fluid restriction is hard. Suck on ice chips or hard candy and just tell yourself "no". Do you pee at all?? That helps. Once you have no urine output what ever goes in..... stays in unless you workout and sweat. Ask Zach about that.

:welcomesign; Aubrey, I am glad you found this site while you are in the adjustment period of dialysis. We have many members from England and it is always interesting to hear how each country deals with ESRD. LOVE your cat's picture! What a beauty! There is so much information here, and even more support. Please feel free to ask questions or share your experiences. We are all here for each other. :grouphug;

Thanks, everyone. The people at the hospital are trying to get me to set up the machine myself now, so I don't know how smooth my dialysis experience will continue to be. Still, we'll see.

Beautiful Aubrey........ :welcomesign;
You will do great setting up your machine....I have gone back in center for several diff reasons but now I wish I could set up myself as well or find a place I could do my home hemo in center..that would be ideal I think.......ok I want to win the lottery and do that...set up a building that will have home hemo units for anyone that wants to use them and have helpers available..that is my dream so pray for me to win the lottery.

Glad you have joined us. A lot of information here. Great people here too.
I was born in London. Actually Finchley. Now I am in the USA, since I was four. Maybe it is good that I am here. I hear that if you are over 55 in England they won't give you dialysis. Is that true?
Hope you post often.

I've seen plenty of people who look over 55 having dialysis where I go. I mean well over 55, as well.
