Title: I get twitchy
Post by: boxman55 on November 07, 2008, 06:02:46 AM
Lately I have noticed (how can I not) that on mornings before dialysis my hands twitch. Don't know why. Anybody else have this happen to them...Boxman

No.  But I know I have uncontrollable twitches with benadryl.  Hope you get this under control.

I used to have the the shakes before dialysis when I was in center.  I figured it was lactic acid.

How's your hemoglobin and iron levels?  I get that when my iron levels are low.  Low hemoglobin seems to make it worse, too - but it still happens for me with normal hemoglobin if the iron levels have dropped too much.

Those are called withdrawal symptoms.    Face it, you are addicted to dialysis.   ;D

Withdrawal -- I wish I was addicted to some good stuff instead of dialysis...Boxman

Perhaps idiopathic neuropathy?  My hands/arms twitch occasionally, when I told that to my last neph at my clinic he said it was "idiopathic" because my labs are fine.  Then he told me I had the choice to either ignore it, or he could send me to a neurologist.  More meds?  I don't think so.  But today my twiches make me look like I'm having episodes, so jumpy.  But I still want no more meds.

Boxman,
Are they like tremors? Dustin's hands would shake. They took him off his Neurotin.

Too true. We have occasionally noticed minor twitching in Rolando's hands also. We believe that it is due to uremia because it is most likely to happen on a Monday evening or when he is eating indiscriminately (lots of low quality protein - green meat such as hot dogs and kielbasa). On one occasion, his access had failed on a Tuesday before dialysis and we watched the twitching get progressively worse as he went through the day without dialysis. Late in the day the doctors finally sent us to the emergency room to address the failed access issue. We were looking at the usual 4 to 6 hr wait while Rolando sat there twitching violently. A couple of hours into it, he had a full blown seizure (no more waiting, they took us right on back!)

Twitching due to uremia? Coincidence? I don't know. How has your predialysis BUN trended?
