When I started considering dialysis treatment, my nephrologist said that pd is basically for 5 years. Since I have been on this journey, I have met people to my surprise who have been on pd for over 10 years. A friend has informed me his father who I never new was on dialysis at all, has done pd for 10 years. Some info I have found searching the web says due to new advances in pd fluids and prescriptions has helped people to stay on pd for much longer times. Anyways, what info might some of you have on this?

About 5 years ago when I started PD, I joined a kidney related Yahoo group, and one of the men had been on PD for 17 years at that point.

A lot can depend on what strength fluid you have to use plus the daily length of dialysis. As a rule the stronger the fluid the quicker the peritoneal membrane wears out.
