My name is Lindsay and I am a 48. I have been on dialysis coming up to 4 years now, but was diagnosed with kidney failure about 18 months before that . Although I have never been told as to why I got this I put it down to have an eating disorder for the past 20+ years. The kidney problem came to light when I got gout which is one of the most painful ailments I had ever experienced. Anyway I have dialysis now three times a week for only 3hrs so I am pretty lucky. I line and prime the machine and take myself off - I did try cannulation and although I didn't have trouble with it, I was very stressed each time it came to it, so I've taken timeout for now.
I am looking forward to being part of this community and hope I can be of help to anyone if needed and share experiences. I don't find dialysis a problem really because it's my time to put the stress of the world away and just give in to being alone and by myself - to indulge in the many books I love to read and forget what is happening 'out there' I have a 20 year old son who is at Uni in London enjoying his life but still finds time to ring his Mum. I live on my own (no job) and look after my 90 year old Mum at weekends. Life is bleak at times but I take one day at a time.

Welcome to our community, Lindsay! So glad you decided to join us. You have much to add to our group. I particularly like the way you have taken on much of your own dialysis setup. I wish I could. don't think I could ever self-cannulate, though! This is a great place for lots of information, loads of support and barrels of fun. We have indeed become a family, caring and sharing. :grouphug; So please keep posting, letting us know how you are doing.
Looking forward to hearing lots from you. :flower;
