My name is Mike and I have been undergoing dialysis for six months.  They are not sure what actually caused me to need dialysis.  I went on vacation, thinking I had a lingering case of the flu, with some swelling in my legs.  On the first full day of vacation, I ended up in the hospital for 11 days.  Started dialysis in the hospital, then in a clinic in Arizona before heading back to the Midwest.  I feel like I have adjusted so that dialysis does not dominate my life, but is simply another part of it.  It is much easier since my access kicked in, and I can shower again.  I have lurked on the boards off and on, but look forward to joining the discussions.

Needless to say that vacation didn't last long. Glad you finally decided to join and introduce yourself. i hope you have learned a lot from lurking here and I hope your transition to dialysis was smooth. If you ever need anything just ask one of the Moderators or Admins and we will be happy to help.

Welcome to our community, Mike!  I just love it when lurkers join.  that means that they have had a look at the site and they like what they see.  So I am going to encourage you to take advantage of all we have to offer.  Keep reading and keep posting.  Let us know how you are doing. Welcome Mike!  I have been on dialysis for a little over a year now.  They also do not know what caused my kidney failure.  It certainly opens up doors to worlds you never existed, doesn't it?  Welcome to this site.  I love it and have found it very helpful.  I look forward to hearing more from you.

I forgot to mention....my mom had her diagnosis during vacation as well when she had to go to the hosptial for swelling in legs and ankles...what is it about vacations   ;D

Yes, I was diagnosed during vacation as well so I always talk about those "theme park rides"...(dialysis)......welcome to a great group.
