I am watching Babylon 5 on DVD backwards this week. Why?
I eat my french fries by size? Why?
I hate bell peppers? Why?
What are the odd things YOU do that make you or other people ask why?
-
oh no, you hate bell peppers
we should punk you and have all your fries the exact same size
what would you do
I can not eat a bisquit without a sliced tomato in it --- nothing else just a sliced tomato--- no butter
everytime I pee I thank the Lord
I have to end prayers a certain way or something bad will happen
one time I did not do this and my best friend was electrocuted after getting out of her pool - 2 weeks before her wedding
I think if I am real happy; something bad will happen
but the fry thing------- you need professional help------ go talk to Ronald McDonald---- he is there for you
-

How can you eat a sliced tomato in a biscuit? You could put one on it but how can you put one in it, it's a single object. There's no way you can get anything in it or was 'in it' a spelling error when you meant 'on it'
-
Why do I sit and count the tiles on a ceiling or the squares in a window? :urcrazy; :urcrazy; :urcrazy; :rofl; :rofl; :rofl;

American 'biscuit' is like a scone, you can slice it and put things in it, if you want. British 'biscuit' is American 'cracker'.

I eat foods on a plate one at a time....all of one, then the next but enjoy stews and soups...go figure.
-
I never noticed it until someone brought it up, but I look at magazines from back to front the first time I pick them up. If I've seen them before I'll start at the beginning. ???
-
I did that in HS but stopped once dad figured it out and if I got a new book I would see that the last 10 pages were carefully missing and wouldn't appear until I was close to the end....so I had to read the correct way...don't do that any more.
-
When I'm in a car I will do this really wierd thing with poles and such. I don't count them, but I tap my toes alternately with each pole. Right, Left, Right, Left. It's maddening to me! No one else knows I do it. I've tried to stop and if I think about it I won't do it. But then I'll find myself doing the same think with my teeth! Biting down on the right, then left alternating with every passing pole! AAAARRRGGGGG!!!!! I can't stop doing it!!
-
I think everyone is a little bit OCD. We all have little things that we do like that.
I can tolerate just about any kind of mess in the house - except dirty socks on the floor. Drives me buggy!
-
When I eat food I tend to have the things I like least first with the thought (I guess) that the lasting impression of the food will be of the nicest parts, so I'll leave happier... plus I guess I like to get pain over and done with ASAP rather than drag it out until I can't refuse it any longer. Guess that's a psychological thing.

a biscuit is a circle
I slice in into and place a slice of tomato in the middle and then close it
you know, like a hamburger bun with something in the middle
can O'Karol put a picture of a biscuit here
or Sluff or someone more computer knowlegable than me
it is possible to put a tomato in a biscuit, Dear ken
your buns are getting cold

I think I understand now. A biscuit in the UK is called a cookie in America so your biscuits must be something intirely different. Are they made of pastry or something like that?

I do this also... I always figured that it was because I am left handed, what hand are you Kelly?
-
Ken, they're closer to a scone than an English biscuit. Here's a link with photos and some recipes. In Canada we call them tea biscuits.

Monrein,
You did really good at finding a biscuit! That was a great idea! Something funny............when I first read Twirls post about how you cannot put a slice of tomato "in" a biscuit, I was like WWWWHHHAAAATTTTT????? :rofl; I did not realize that there really are people who would not know what a biscuit really is! Me being from the south grew up eating those things! I think they are the "bestest". I love me some sausage gravy-n-biscuits? Do some people not know what sausage gravy is neither? Just asking is all..............
-
Tyny, I know about these foods because of endless food curiosity but I have to say that I don't like the sausage gravy thing, only because of the fat and calories. I love eating so if I weren't careful about the fat, I'd be huge, especially post transplant with prednisone. My Dad was from the southern US originally and he was a great cook so he made these things when we were kids but mostly we liked Jamaican foods better. He loved grits and would try to tempt us but we wanted leftover breadfruit instead. Food is so much about what you grew up with.
My grandfather was British and we found all the foods he liked to be way too bland. He found Jamaican food weird so as kids we'd dump hot sauce all over the dull stuff and he'd be so astonished that we could handle it so spicy.
-
Yeah, I agree with we tend to eat or like what we grew up with because as kids we did not know any different, ya know? Where are you from Monrein?
-

I'm right handed. So there's no excuse for me. :rofl;
-
My biscuits are only like scones if I over cook them! I like soft and flakey biscuits with butter and grape jam! Oh, and sausage gravy is amazing (depending on where you get it).
-
For Americans 'cookies' are what we would call 'sweet biscuits' in my country, and 'crackers' are the white (or whole wheat) ones with little sugar.
-
Sorry double post. :oops;
-
well here in aussieland we call them nappies is it the same in the uk?
-
Thank you Twirl Kitkatz and Monrein and Bajanne for your explanation. I thought I knew all the differences in names that we have for the same things both here and across the pond but I didn't know that. Maybe we should start a thread where we name something and someone has to reply with the equivalent name either British American Canadian or Aussie. For instance do you know what baby's diapers are called in the UK?This question is for non Brits only.
You say like scones. YOU PUT SAUSAGE GRAVY ON SCONES?? :puke;
-

Correct Charee. Shall we carry on with this or shall I start a new thread cause I think I'm going off topic with this one?
-
ken i recken start a new one its a great topic :2thumbsup;
-
OK here goes, look in the off topic message board in a few minutes.
-
Diapers are nappies in Britain I bet. We called them that in Jamaica. Here in Canada my mother in law calls a very very small bowl a nappy.

In the South biscuits are absolutely NOTHING like scones (again, unless you over cook them and they become hard like a rock).
-
Don't know what kind of scones you've had Kelly but they are usually very much like a tea biscuit. They do differ slightly from baker to baker but in general terms they're much more similar than different in my somewhat limited experience. Well, mind you I've been out for quite a number of "English Teas" in my time and my grandmother in Jamaica always had tea with scones or biscuits (cookies as we call them) served promtly at 4 o'clock.
Here's a link with a picture.

at HEB a scone looks like a puffy triangle and there is nothing on top
usually made with blueberries or cinnamon
they do not look like the one monrien posted------ hers look better
not only at HEB but at bakeries and other stores- they look like triangles
-
The scones don't come with the clotted cream and jam on top though. You add that if you want (I always want but I go very easy on the clotted cream which is delicious).
Watercress and cucumber (separate, not together) sandwiches followed by a nice scone all washed down with some lovely loose Earl Grey or Darjeeling Oolong tea. I could do that every day.
-
clotted cream would be something we would not eat------- left in the fridge too long
I like Earl Grey tea
Darjeeling Oolong tea sounds like a video game villian's name
-
Monrein, your photo looks very much like a biscuit.
Sorry. I've never heard the two compared. :) Twirl and Donnia can back me up on that. ;)
Darn, now I want buttermilk biscuits with gravy!!!!!!!!!!!
-
ohhh drool....clotted cream......my grandmother used to put it on everything...dad would eat it on bread with jam...yes I grew up so deprived...NOT...poor perhaps but never deprived.
:clap;

Oh Twirl, it's not sour milk, it's heavenly decadence. I enclose a picture. Now, it's not a renal friendly thing I'm sure, but delicious, yes indeed.

Monrein, that cream looks like butter to me......... ;D
-
monrein that looks sooooooooooooooooooooooo good!

Just to get us back on topic....
Why do I hate bones in my chicken?
-
b/c if you buy your chicken by the lb you pay for something you can not eat
and you should not give to any of your pets
when I pay for something I want to eat all of it
bones are too crunchy
unless it is the foot of a chicken
-
:puke; blech..foot of a chicken...my mother used to eat those.....blech.
-
Why do I hate the sound of people clipping their fingernails or toenails?
-
I do not know, TynyW, but I hate it too
my husband was clicking his fingernails when the doc told us our unborn daughter was going to be etremely ill when born
and I yelled at him to STOP IT, right in front of the doctor I yelled at him
but no cuss words, at least not at that time
why did I tell my husband I could lose weight before he quit smoking and that was 20 years ago and he quit smoking and I'm still fat
-
aaawwww twirl!! U R A TRIP!!! :rofl; :rofl; :rofl;
Why do I also hate it when someone pulls their chewing gum in & out of their mouth & plays with it??!!! :puke;
-
why did I get sick :puke; when my junior high students would take gum out of their mouth and pass it to another student
that happened in a literature class I was teaching
I started gagging so hard
I had to leave the room
my students were like
what, why would that gag you
-
:puke; :Kit n Stik;
-
That is :puke; twirl!!!!
-
Why do I gross out at the things the sixth and seventh graders do? Such as snotty noses and coughs on me. Wiping noses on sleeves. Slurping snot back into their noses. Sneezing towards me. :puke;
-
oh thanks for that graphic description
:rofl;
I can see it all in my head
:yahoo;
a couple of years ago my Texas history was outside collecting things to make an Indian village and one of my students ate fireants
- I gagged and threw up
he said they were spicy
and students trading ABC gum ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
and spitting and dipping and spitting dip ohhhhhhhhhhh
-
I can not stand tiny onions in my spaghetti sauce. If I am eating spaghetti I drain the sauce to get the onions out. But the weird thing is I can eat the sauce with out straining it if it is lasagna. :secret;
-
Slurping snot back into their noses.
ALL TIME MOST :puke;
-
Slurping snot back into their noses.
ALL TIME MOST :puke;
Everything is cultural. Apparently in Japan, it is considered much ruder to blow your nose in public than to er ahem, how do you say it, ahm, recirculate this bodily fluid. Some say it's considered a bit like farting in public although the younger generation is said to be more tolerant of nose-blowing.
PS. I don't like the snuffling either.
-
Well, speaking of ABC gum.............I was reminded last night of how much I HATE even seeing ABC gum on someone's plate!!!! :puke; I sometimes wanna say, "look, if you are saving that piece of gum because it is your last piece & you can't afford anymore, I will GLADLY buy you another pack or give you a piece!" :puke; Makes me :urcrazy; :rofl;
-
Why do I hate bell peppers? I will go out of my way to not eat anything with a bell pepper in it. If it even smells like it I cannot eat it.
-
Count me in on that one Tyny...I always used to find hunks of ABC gum on the bottom of my furniture when the gdtrs were younger...I would make them clean it off and check before they left to make sure nothing...this finally quit and not it's on plates...not in front of me... :puke;
-
What is ABC gum?
-
Already Been Chewed Gum= ABC-gum
-
Why do I pretend to be sleeping so I don't have to deal with guests
-
Thanks KK. Never heard that before. Sheltered childhood. We weren't allowed to chew gum as kids.
-
Why do I pretend to be sleeping so I don't have to deal with guests
hey wait Boxman, you took my trick
I do it all the time
we were not allowed to chew gum either but we always found a way
