And my spelling is less then perfect. with that said.
I ma paul my better half is karen
Please call me paul or P&K as Karen may also wander in to look around and learn with me.
We Live in new jersey.
I have PKD. I learned of this about four years ago.
I went to get a massage and later that night urninated some blood.
I went to the doctor to lok into this and ended up i the ICU at my local hospital. Guess they thought i was on the verge of a stroke??? or they just wanted to fill a beed and tap my insurance not sure.
Needless they ran bloodwork and a specailist came in to talk with me. Told me i had PKD. heriditary but as im not on good gorunds with much of the extended family i knew little of this.
So fast forward up to now and my friend Susie told me about this place.
So :waving; everyone im paul and im have PKD.
And many many questions that some little meeting i went to to learn baout this stuff turned out to be more of a pharmacuetical giveaway then a learning session..
Did i do this right?? guess i should have read some previous new people posts first huh :Kit n Stik;
Oh yeah and Karen is doing well with all this fun news.
me I feel fine and i think im in total DENIAL :banghead; :secret; But dont tell anyone ok.
One more thing. We use to travel alot. Out of state to Mexico and Punta Cana. I quess those days are kind aover now as well.
The only positive i have in my life right now is Karen. And my job. So someone please :thumbup; tell me that i will be able to do this dialysis and still be able to work a 40+ hour workweek.
If i missed anything please tell me or ask.
Oh and io have MAJOR questions about home vs doctor administerd dialysis. who should i ask where shold i look.
Thank your for listening.

:welcomesign; P&K. We are a great group and share information and have lots of support. Hope to hear more from you and your wife. :cuddle;

P&K welcome to IDH. You did just fine. One tip is at the bottom of your next post page is a "Spell Check" and it will show the words it doesn't recognize and give you words to choose from. I suggest you start reading some of the other posts in the "General Dialysis" section for advice on which type of treatments are out there. As for working.... best of luck.

:welcomesign; Look around the site, read lots of info and ask any questions you might have.

Welcome, Paul (and Karen). I've been on PD for 5 years and would be happy to answer questions. Keep us posted on how you're doing. Lots of good information here.

Welcome and Yes! You can work a 40 hour week and do dialysis at the same time. At least some of us do. If you can't, well, you'll figure out a way to get what you want and need.
Best of luck and I look forward to hearing from you in the General Discussion area.

(feel free to use the Spell Check button. It works well for me!)

Hi Paul, Great introduction! We are glad you and Karen joined---and thanks to Susie for sending you to us! There is a lot to process at the beginning of this fun journey. Take some time and read through posts here. You will find more answers here than at the doctors office. Lots of honest answers. We are also a great support group. We help each other over the rough spots. But, sometimes we make each other laugh, too. So, jump in and join the family. :grouphug; :welcomesign;

Thank you all for the warm welcome.
I have learned so much here in just the last few days.
I just have to get all the abreviations down and ill be right in the flow so to say....
So a big :thx; to you all.

:waving; So glad your friend told you about this fabulous site.
Don't fret over the abbreviations. If I see an abbreviation that I don't know I just make up what I think it is and move along. My guess isn't usually right, but it's much more fun! ;)
There's an abbreviation breakdown somewhere. Just do a search.
Welcome and good luck! :welcomesign;

Good to have you both here!

PS: And we all can use that spell check more often.

Welcome to our community, Paul and Karen! This is just the place for you to be. Here you will find loads of information, tons of support and barrels of fun at times. Please take advantage of all this site has to offer. You will find that this is your new family. :grouphug;
Of course you can work, and you can also travel!! Some of us just came back from our 2nd Annual Las Vegas Reunion. I must confess, though, that I am now a weekend traveller. But honestly, we packed so much into that weekend that it felt like a week!
We have a section about work - Dialysis: Working while on Dialysis
and travelling - Dialysis: Traveling Tips and Stories
Dialysis does not mean the end of enjoying life. I am proof of that. We have to make some adjustments, that's all.
Looking forward to hearing lots from you two.

Hi P&K and welcome!
Let me jump on the bandwagon and say yes indeed, you can continue to travel nationally and internationally. We do, and it is a major plus to be able to look forward to and plan the next trip. Like Bajanne said, check out the travel section.
People on dialysis are sometimes able to continue working. My observation is that if you are working up to the point of starting diaysis, there's a reasonable chance that you will be able to continue. Best of luck with that and, again, like Bajanne said, check out the working while on dialysis section.
Alene and Rolando
(Admin: How about adding a "grammarcheck" button. I seem to have this thing about commas...,,,)

Hey P&K, I recognize "Chicken Bits" in your avatar. Below is a pic of Rolando at sunset in the Plaza Mayor in Tikal, Guatemala. You can most certainly travel while on dialysis.
