Title: Taken any trips since your spouse became ill/disabled?
Post by: Sara on August 11, 2006, 03:47:52 PM
Joe just started dialysis in January, and while we haven't taken any trips, he's made a few work trips to Ohio (we're in Florida, so it's a flight away) for a week or more each time.  It makes me really nervous for him to be somewhere that I can't keep an eye on him.  But anyway, we need to get away, so we're in process of planning a long weekend somewhere.

How about you?

I haven't been on vaction for 9 years except for a weekend in San Francisco. I really NEED a vaction. That is why I love going to "Titos Tacos" it's like a vaction in my mouth.  ;D

/looks around for goofynina  :o

But I really, really want to go to New York. I really can't see going to Hawaii, because I would get stuck in the sand.  :(

Well, i sure hope it is worth a 4 1/2 hour drive for me.  I will be going there soon and I WILL HAVE AN OPEN MIND as to just how good these "tito's taco's are"  I believe it is in Culver City?  Where are you from Livecam?  I am in the Fresno area, brother lives in Palmdale but works in Wilmington, which is by there somewhere, so when i go down there, i am going to get to meet the one and only EPOMAN and we will do the lunch thing,  i think it would be pretty cool... cant wait :P

YES! Then come back and give us your REVIEW. But I am telling you now, their specialty is TACOS, everything else is so/so. ONLY ORDER THE TACOS With Cheese.

There now see what you made me do, I went OFF-TOPIC.  >:(  ;) Sooooo back on topic. I don't think being on dialysis should hold anyone back from traveling, dialysis is so common place now-a-days if there is a will there is a way.

Well, since i am the spouse that is "disabled"  i guess i can speak for my hubby.  On my birthday last year he took me on a mini vacation to Lake Tahoe,  it was absolutely gorgeous, i forgot i was sick the whole weekend, we just totally lived it up, then,  i came and got on that damn scale, lol,  i have to admit it wasnt as bad as that New Years when i gained 15 kilo's, but it was up there.  Now i am on PD and our next trip will be to the Los Angeles area to check out this "Tito's Taco's" that are supposed to be the best.  But i am looking forward to meeting Epoman more than trying a taco...;)

Ok, now where is Pinks?  what is it? where is it?  Since i am down there, i might as well hit up all the "spots" there.  lol,   Do you have to travel far to get to Culver City?  I think we should have a reunion and all meet up at Epoman's house, lol,  (which by the way is Tito's Taco's) i heard he has had his mail forwarded there cuz he is there so much, lol :P   aint that right Big Guy?

Pink's is a world famous hot dog place.  It is on La Brea Ave. in Hollywood.  They have hotdogs every way you can possibly imagine them and all the goodies to go along with the dogs.  Good place and bring your appetite. Culver City is just south of downtown Los Angeles off the 405, not hard to get to.

We have been traveling since I became ill. So far Lake Tahoe, NV twice, Pismo Beach, CA, Bellingham, Washington, Oceanside, CA., Williamsburg, VA. Almost got to Windsor, CA. this summer.  Still planning to travel around. Just have to plan ahead a little.   Watch out for the tourist places, they often require a six month to year advance reservations.  Hawaii is very hard to get into.

Heph has been on dialysis for 14 months now and we have been camping three times. Twice to Somerset, the first time he was on hemo, the last time was just the past two weeks with the cycler and once on CAPD to Kent. While on CAPD we also went and stayed in a chalet in Wales for a week and at my parents for 10 days in Blackpool, staying with other friends in the Cumbria for a night en-route. I think that is it for now, but that certainly won't be all.

All our trips have been in the UK so far but we have friends in the U.S in West Virginia and Kansas City and we really want to get over and see them so I think we are going to try and arrange that for next year.

Travelling takes a little more organising, but I'd say it's well worth it!  ;D

We use to go on cruises every summer but after contacting Kidney at Sea an organization that sponsors just that, I found their prices for the spouse not on dialysis to be too expensive. Why must I pay the same prices as my spouse who needs the treatments? I thought it unfair and the prices way too high when all added up.  We spent last summer in Virginia Beach, it was OK, just not a cruise. Any ideas?
