Hi everyone. My name is Scott and I am a 36 year old male Lupus patient who is staring down the next big change/challenge of my life very soon here.
I've had kidney involvement since my mid 20s but my Lupus came back in Jan 07 to finish off the kidneys for good. Despite the Lupus going into a 'quiet' state my kidney's function and capability have deteriorated from then until now.
I currently have a creatinine of 5.0 BUN 49 GFR 15 potassium 4.5 sodium 140 and phosphorus 4.5
I am currently employed in a high stress environment at a nationally leading home builder. As one can imagine; Job security is not looking very good in a performance based sales environment in an industry that has has been doing nothing but downsizing for the last three years.
I still feel that I am very fortunate and blessed despite my illnesses and outlook. I have family that want to help donate so I would like to stave off dialysis so I can explore the possibility of a transplant. Unfortunately I cannot make the donor qualification process work any faster or make my company stop letting people go. I can control what I eat though (not always so easily though) and can think positively as well.
I think I am a lot less active as I have lost 30 lbs and have anemia. (went from 150lbs to 120lbs) I was never a big guy to begin with since I stand 5'8". I feel fairly confident that I can maintain my sodium and potassium within decent levels despite my creatinine.
I hope to meet good people who would like to share their ESRD experience with me as I would like to do more of the same.

I can only imagine that the wealth of knowledge on this forum far surpasses a 5 minute nephrologist visit where the doctor shuffles you in and out of his office as quckly as they can...

Though we do not and cannot claim to be medical professionals (and we need them), our claim is that we have been there, done that. We have the insight of those who are actually living this experience, and this is what qualifies us to share with others.
