Title: Personal question for guys on dialysis
Post by: julian230 on October 01, 2008, 08:10:12 PM
So I noticed when I get too much fluids on me , or have alot , my appendage gets quite big and puffy and my nutsack gets big too , does this happen to anyone else? I told my doctor about this , to which he responded "you lucky bastard!" and than said "... but seriously , see me if it continues in a week".

The only time that has happened with me is when I had a leak in my peritoneum and I had PD fluid leaking down there. My wang swelled up like a tennis ball! Never had anything like that on hemo, though.

I can echo what Adam said, never had this on hemo but on PD when I developed a small leak.  Looked like I was smuggling a cantaloupe in my pants!

Sorry. I have not had that problem. The only swelling I get is in the legs under the calves above the ankles.

Nope.  Nothing here.

But stay on top of this because it could be something serious.  It seems unusual to have fluid accumulating in the groin.  Logically it should be going to your feet and legs, not stopping on the way.

What other places do you get fluid accumulating?  Does this happen before dialysis? After? During?

Do you have good circulation to your legs and feet?  Any numbness? Or tingling?  Or pain?

The doc's response, while comic, really wasn't appropriate.  He should be asking questions, not making wisecracks.  Is this the same doc you we were discussing in another thread?

nothing like that ever happened to me... the fluid usually sits around my tummy (talk about "beer gut" !!)... but never noticed it any lower...

sounds concerning... good luck with it!!!

Same doctor.  Fluid for me will usually be apparent in my face , and hands. Not in my legs or arms , just hands , face , lower extremities , and thats about it. This happens before dialysis , after dialysis they seem to disappear up until I drink water and than they reappear (After 3 or 4 glasses of water , so its pretty quick) I have good circulation to both feet and legs . No pain , just uncomfortable while in bed because its , excuse me for being graphic , flip flopping all over the place (gives you an idea how enlarged it can get).

If you figure out what's causing it, let me know. Those male enhancement drugs are getting expensive and insurance won't cover them.  :rofl;

Seriously, I have heard of it happening PD patients due to the fluids.

So the doctor looked at it today , with his usual humorous rant "some cats are just so lucky"... in which i responded " i don't feel like a lucky cat" ... he says it looks like a hernia , so they took at CT scan and we will find out tomorrow!

A hernia sounds like a logical explanation.  Let us know what the CT scan shows.

CT scans show nothing. The urologist said it was just fluid there, and that it happens every now and than for patients on dialysis! PHEW! Nothing big , just fluids .

What you describe can happen to people when they have low albumin levels.  Fluid starts leaking into the tissues.
