Title: Hi here is a little about our team (my husband and I)
Post by: Maggie and Jeff on September 23, 2008, 01:02:10 PM
Found to have 25% kidney function 1997
Five bypass heart surgery 1999
So my life as a pin cushion began August 23 2006

My husband and I (I Maggie being the one on dialysis) do daily dialysis on the Nxstage I have never been in clinic although it looks like an awful place to have to spend any of your life.  We started on the NxStage at the Davita in Nashville.

I spent my entire childhood terribly afraid of needles and prayed not to be a diabetic or a junkie! “Didn't know anything about dialysis at that time.”

God answered my prayers, I'm not a junkie or a diabetic Although diabeties runs in the family... no instead I get the BIG needles!!

I think that getting to dialyze at home is wonderful, now I'm just waiting for them to come up with a machine that uses no needles and that I can strap to my back and hike around with (like a backpack!) then life will be pretty close to perfect.

I have to say I am jealous of ya'll doing nocturnal treatments. We would love any info as to how to get started doing extended daily therapy (Nocturnal) on our NxStage system one.  As I understand it we would need a heparin pump and car 171. And a clinics cooperation.

Jeff and I started dialysis a little over two years ago and saw "extended dialysis" on the Davita website. We began asking about it almost immediately. Now it's been over two years and we are still asking and bugging everyone we can about it BUT nobody seems to know anything around here!

By the way this is a great site. Thank you for Building it.

Maggie and Jeff, we are glad you are both here.  You sound like a great team!   I've always been told to be careful what you pray for!  He heard you say you didn't want to be diabetic or a junkie!   Glad NxStage is working out well for you.  It sounds like you are very informed and have taken control of your health needs.  Good for you  :2thumbsup;   You have a great attitude.   Looking forward to hearing more from you.  Thanks for sharing your story with us.

:welcomesign;  Maggie and Jeff.  Your intro reminded me of a thread we have on here called "Corrupt a wish"...so yours would be "I wish not to be a junkie or a diabetic"  and one of us would answer "Granted but you get to shove the really big needles into your arm".  A little twisted dialysis humour.

It sounds as though you've done a great job of taking charge as much as possible and it looks from your avatar photo that you're a potter.  Post some photos sometime. (We have a Hobbies thread and we'd love to see photos whether it's a hobby or your job.

Our web-site is about our pottery
We are a third generation pottery, and live in the middle of the woods with our two dogs and pottery studio.  I should post some pictures of these things.

Thank you for ya'lls warm welcome

Very nice.  Thanks.  I love your dogs.  I grew up with several (at the same time) Alsatians, kind of smaller Shepherds.  So smart and protective.

Welcome to our community!  You have come to just the right place for information, support, as well as some fun.  Though the site's founder Epoman hated dialysis, he loved NxStage.  I hope that you get the extended dialysis that you want.  there is so much on this site.  Please take advantage of it all.
Great picts! :thumbup;  thanks for sharing.  You are now part of the IHD family.  Looking forward to hearing lots from you.
