:waving;
Can anyone on PD dialysis tell my what causes such horrible pain in the hip on a drain and what might help. My daughter gets such awful pain in the hip on some drains. She on a cycler, does one exchange in the afternoon and goes to pause and back on at 8 pm for another 10 hrs. The pain does occur with every drain, but often enough. OH MY HIP she will yell, and it's usually at the end of a drain, today she cried. It broke my heart. Thanks for any input.

Sorry to hear about her pain. The only time I ever feel discomfort is at the end of a drain when I am nearly dry, but it's certainly not "pain," more like a feeling of emptiness. Hope things get better for her, and be sure and come back and post what's happening.

Is it possible the catheter is hitting a nerve? When I was pregnant the baby would move in a way that would put pressure on a nerve and send a shooting pain down my hip. I know it's not the same but maybe check the catheter placement. ???

I agree with peleroja most of the time I wouldn't describe it as pain but a feeling of emptiness and a little pinch at the very end. What okarol says also has alot of merit. I don't know your daughter's daily activities but if I have been active during the day my catheter will "move" on the inside and cause pain when draining. I have felt it towards my hip and weirdly enough in my behind. (That's awful!) For example, if my husband and I got a little too "wild" lol, in the bedroom activities I will usually pay for it with my drains that evening.
I would also suggest seeing if changing her relaxed position would help. Has anyone spoken to the doc's? If you push, I know they can look to see where the catheter is to see if it's hitting something it should not.
Oh, just thought of another one. Remember to watch the constipation. That will move the catheter to very uncomfortable positions also. I HAVE cried with that one.

Sorry to hear that. I'm on CC PD and I experience a little pain when nearly empty. Just a guess though but I think it is nerve endings being irritated. However it should go away after a fill and during a dwell. Also after about 5 months it seems to have subsided somewhat.
Let us know how its going. Take care, Coorsbob :beer1;
